Can Ledger Live get Hacked?

Like any other computer/mobile software, Ledger Live — which is the desktop and mobile application used to manage your Ledger hardware wallets, is not immune to hacking attempts. No software in general can be 100% immune to hacks.

💡 Achieve enterprise-grade wallet security by using a Ledger hardware wallet.

Despite Ledger Live being not immune to hacks, Ledger Labs has taken many steps to ensure the security of their software.

However, what’s important is the fact that your Ledger hardware wallet is almost impossible to get hacked since your Ledger hardware wallet is its own device with its own operating system and secure chip. Hence why you can’t accidentally install malware on your Ledger as you can on computer/mobile devices.

Fortunately, your Ledger device displays the receiving wallet’s address on the device’s screen itself when trying to send out bitcoin/crypto; hence you can verify if your Ledger is actually sending to the correct wallet address.

Can my crypto be stolen from Ledger Live?

Your bitcoin/crypto can’t get stolen from Ledger Live itself.

For your crypto to be stolen, the hacker/thief either needs to:

  1. Gain access to your wallet’s 12-24 word backup
  2. Gain access to your Ledger hardware wallet and your device PIN

If the thief gains access to either, the thief can then steal your funds by sending your crypto out to the thief’s wallet using Ledger Live or other wallet software.
